1. Sweetpea Bicycles Custom (left) - Sweetpea Bicycles is a two-person custom bike operation in Portland, Oregon. For someone as freakishly short as me, if I'm going to blow a lot of money on a bike, I might as well have one made specifically for me and my wee legs. Plus I think it would be really fun to choose the colors and all of the other little details (I'm digging the wooden handlebars on this one).
2. Gary Fisher Simple City 3 (top right) - This bike looks to me like a modern version of Trudy...big wheels, blue frame, tan seat. It would make a great commuter bike, and the price is not too over-the-top ridiculous. It lacks a bit of Trudy's vintage charm, however. Not sure it would be worth the upgrade.
3. Sögreni Old Shatterhand (bottom right) - I think this one might be my favorite of all. Simple, classic, yet exuding a modern urban cool. The only problem with it is that even if I could somehow come up with the nearly four grand to actually buy this Danish beauty, I would be too worried about it getting stolen to actually relax and enjoy riding it.
(More bike love on one of my favorite blogs, A Cup of Joe.)
that sweetpea bike is SWEET!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty partial to that one, too. Confession: I am the builder at Sweetpea, and really have to pass a lot of the style credit to a super snazzy customer. What you can't see from the picture is how light it is - it has a modern 10 speed racing drivetrain. My customer took it on a group ride and did hill sprints on it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Natalie! It's a pleasure to have you. A super rad-looking bike that is also light? Sign me up! Not only is my vintage Schwinn too big for me, it's a beast to try to carry up even a couple of stairs. Hopefully one day I'll be able to afford one of your masterpieces. Keep doing what you do...you rock!
